Cognitive sovereignty is commonly lost in small increments, at your desk, before lunch.
Not in some dramatic moment of crisis. In the Slack notification that spikes your pulse.
The email marked “urgent” that isn’t. The headline in a new notification.
The Zoom comment that reads as an attack.
Forty times a day, something crosses your screen asking for a reaction before it’s earned one.
Forty times a day, most people just… give it.
This mouse pad sits under the hand that clicks “reply” too fast.
- Six questions, always in view, always separating signal from noise:
- What exactly is being claimed?
- What evidence supports it?
- What evidence contradicts it?
- How likely is this?
- Does this affect me directly?
- What is within my control?
Run it enough times and it stops living on the pad and starts living in the half-second before you hit send or respond.
Your desk generates more of your reactive noise than anywhere else in your day. It should generate more of your discipline too.
What it trains
The questions are designed to be an environmental cue to anchor yourself in moments when your mind drifts into reactivity. Repeated exposure to rational intervention trains the mind to think in those terms when alarming news or events occur, so it acts causatively rather than reflexively.

Care instructions
Use warm water and dish soap to clean spots off your pad. It’s not necessary to soak the whole pad. For hard-to-clean spots, use a soft-bristled brush.
